Frequently asked questions

1

How long do results last?

Results for Juvederm usually last between 8-12 months. If your skin begins to return to its regular form, re-treatment can be scheduled!
2

What Is Lip Filler?

A lip filler is a cosmetic dental procedure to make the lips appear fuller and more visually appealing. The procedure. involves injecting a dermal filler into the lips. The dermal filler contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring acid mostly found in the eyes and joints. The acid-based filer attracts moisture into your lips, thus increasing their volume. Hyaluronic acid is completely non-toxic and is readily accepted by the body. Juvederm is the most popular hyaluronic acid used in lip fillers, with excellent results. The lip filler usually lasts twelve to eighteen months after injecting lip filler into your body. The faster your metabolism, the shorter the filler lats. You can, however, get follow-up lip filler shots to retain your lips’ volume.
3

What should I avoid before and after Juvederm?

Before treatment, avoid all medications that thin blood. This is including, and not limited to, Asprin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Excedrin, fish oil, ginseng, and alcohol. If you need a good pain medication, Tylenol is a good alternative to use prior to your appointment. After your treatment, do not touch or massage your injection for 24 hours. Also, avoid other facial treatments including microdermbrasion, peels, and massages for at least two days. Do not exercise for 24-48 hours after treatment.
4

Do Lip Fillers Permanently Stretch Your Lips?

No, lip fillers do not stretch your lips permanently. Lip filler is a temporary dental procedure that lasts about twelve months or so, after which the lips revert to their normal size. Over time, the body metabolizes the hyaluronic acid the dentists injected into your lips. However, it’s worth noting that repeated lip fillers over a short period could affect the elasticity of your lips. Too many injections too often prevent the lips from regaining their original shape, compromising their elasticity. It’s worth noting that this has nothing to do with the hyaluronic acid but rather the frequency and amount of lip filler injected into the lips.
5

Are There Any Negative Side Effects After Getting Lip Fillers?

Yes, there are side effects to getting lip fillers, but none of them are serious enough to warrant a doctor. Some of the side effects of lip fillers include bleeding and pain that you can manage with cotton gauze and painkillers. You might also experience tenderness and a slight discoloration of the lips. Lip fillers might reactivate cold sores in some and lead to infection in cases the dentist administering the treatment isn’t too careful. There’s also the risk of migration, where the lip filler spreads to undesirable areas. Sometimes lip fillers cause tissue death if the hyaluronic acid is injected around or into an artery.
6

Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Filler?

Anyone with good physical health and realistic expectations is a good candidate for lip filler. Getting the procedure is a personal decision. However, dentists recommend lip fillers if your lips got smaller because of age and you wish to restore them to their original size. If you have asymmetrical lips where one is smaller than the other. You might also need lip filler if you need to eliminate fine lines at the corners of your mouth when you laugh or smile. A lip filler is also necessary if you have low self-esteem and you think fuller lips will boost your confidence.
