If you’ve been considering veneers or Lumineers in Dallas, you may be wondering which treatment is right for you. We want our patients to be informed as they consider their cosmetic options, so here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re deciding between veneers and Lumineers:

Traditional Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are designed to fit perfectly over your teeth and cover up the front surfaces. By doing so, they can cover up a wide range of cosmetic flaws. Veneers are commonly used at White Dental Spa to treat cosmetic issues ranging from small gaps to discolored teeth, small or misshapen teeth, and more. This cosmetic treatment is extremely versatile. The veneers placement process usually takes two appointments.

At your first appointment, your teeth will be trimmed to remove about a small amount of enamel. Then, dental impressions are taken of your teeth and sent to a lab where your veneers will be made. At your next appointment, your veneers will be permanently bonded to your teeth using special dental cement.

With proper care, veneers can easily last 10-15 years or longer, making them a great long-term option for restoring your smile.

Lumineers – A Minimally-Invasive Alternative

Lumineers are also designed to fit over the front surfaces of your teeth. The major difference between veneers and Lumineers is that Lumineers are much thinner than traditional porcelain veneers. For reference, Lumineers are only about as thick as a contact lens. This means that, in most cases, Lumineers can be placed without removing any enamel from your teeth.

While some trimming is required in a few cases, many patients can have Lumineers placed without removing any enamel. This also means that Lumineers are reversible, unlike traditional veneers.

Are Lumineers Better Than Traditional Veneers?

Not always. Both Lumineers and traditional porcelain veneers have their pros and cons. While Lumineers are a great alternative to veneers, they are not quite as strong because the material is thinner. They have a slightly higher risk of breakage, and can be damaged if you grind or clench your teeth without wearing a night guard.

In addition, Lumineers will make your teeth thicker, which may make it harder for you to clean around the gum line. When it comes to choosing between traditional veneers and Lumineers, it’s always best to consult with a dentist like Dr. Quinn Liu or Dr. E-Jan Tung. Our dentists will examine your teeth and gums and offer honest advice about which treatment is best for your specific needs.
